One Direction star Liam Payne was reportedly attempting to escape from his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina just moments before he tragically fell to his death aged 31
Liam Payne was attempting to escape from his hotel room just minutes before he fell to his death, it has been claimed.
The beloved One Direction star tragically fell to his death at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 16. It’s alleged those working at the hotel knew the 31-year-old was threatening to use the balcony as a way to flee but left him by himself.
Such claims come in a witnesses and a filed police report. According to TMZ, sources claim Liam had a dislike for being confined in hotel rooms which traced back to his years in One Direction.
It’s claimed he attempted to escape a hotel room via the balcony in September, when Liam’s security confined him to a room in a Florida rental property due to concerns over potential drug use. Liam had allegedly tried to escape the room through a balcony, using a garden hose to get him to the ground, reports the Mirror.
Liam was reportedly intoxicated and causing a disturbance in the hotel lobby on the day that he died. Witnesses claimed hotel employees intervened and the singer resisted, telling staff he did not want to stay in the room and warned he would use the balcony to escape if held in the room.
Hotel staff reportedly used a master key to place Liam in his room and removed a mirror outside of his door, seemingly out of concern he might damage it. Not long after this, a hotel employee called 911, telling police the singer was in a room with a balcony and expressed fear that he might try to escape.
A transcript of the 911 call made by the employee read: “I don’t know whether his life may be in danger. He is in a room with a balcony, and, well, we’re a little afraid,”
After the hotel staff left Liam alone, he apparently tried to escape via the balcony, leading to his tragic fall. A second-floor hotel guest reportedly discovered a leather bag containing pills, a bottle of Jack Daniel’s, and a note labelled “for Liam” on their balcony.
Investigators believe this bag, identified as the singer’s and not the one found next to his body, was lowered to the second-floor balcony as part of his alleged escape attempt. Police believe the singer was likely in a state of “semi or total unconsciousness” when he died.
They are looking to determine who supplied Liam with the drugs reportedly found in his system. Rogelio “Roger” Nores, a friend of the singer is under investigation, has denied any involvement in the singer’s death. He claims he last saw the star about 40 minutes before his fall and had visited his friend’s hotel three times that day.
Nores stated: “I never abandoned Liam. There were over 15 people at the hotel lobby chatting and joking with him when I left. I could have never imagined something like this would happen.”
Two other men have also been questioned. These include a 21-year-old hotel worker, and a 24-year-old who worked at a restaurant Liam visited.
