Liam Payne’s heartbreaking unreleased song has been shared by a songwriter who worked with the former One Direction star in the months leading up to his tragic death.
The internet is in mourning as heartbreaking details emerge about Liam Payne’s unreleased music. The 31-year-old former One Direction heartthrob, whose life was tragically cut short by a fatal fall from a third-floor balcony while on holiday in Buenos Aires on October 16, has left behind a haunting tune shared on TikTok.
Songwriter Adam Midgley revealed a moving song they worked on together, with poignant lyrics: “If I’m lost in the dark now, will you hear me when I call? Will it ever get easier?”
Recorded during a creative period, the snippet also features Payne’s voice reflecting on life’s uncertainties: “I’m a little less high than I used to be. I’m still a little unsure of everything. I keep hearing that I’m right where I’m supposed to be, so I’m trying to figure out what that’s supposed to mean.”
Delving further into introspection, Payne sang: “And now it’s all in my head, every night when I go to bed. Does it get easier? […] Oh, look what you’ve done, what have you done? I say to myself: look what you’ve done, was it ever enough?”
Midgley, who wrote Dua Lipa’s Hotter Than Hell and is under the same Universal Music banner that once backed Payne, took to TikTok with a heartfelt message, explaining their meeting in 2019 at a tumultuous time for Payne following the split of One Direction and a personal breakup.

“Liam wasn’t used to writing his own songs, but we talked for hours about what had been going on in his life and I wanted to help him try to express the things he was repressing. He was incredibly kind and welcoming to me… we got on so well [that] I ended up going to stay with him for a while in this beautiful house he had near Malibu,” the Daily Star reports.
Adam revealed that Payne “had such crazy stories and such an incredible life,” sharing anecdotes that “blew his mind.”
