We’re not sure whether we’re relieved that the news leaked thatGeneral Hospitalwas killing off Sam — so we could brace ourselves — or sorry that it did — because now we’re watching Kelly Monaco’s last episodes with a sense of dread.
Even today, on the fan favorite’s 21st anniversary in the role, we’re of mixed feelings.
Complicating matters is the fact that the show has foreshadowed the way that Sam will meet her maker.
An experienced diver, she is determined to make a splash to retrieve the gun that Alexis was spotted tossing off a bridge (in order to keep daughter Kristina from being accused of Cates’ murder, one of the many crimes the young woman’s dad Sonny committed). Odds are, Sam will never bubble up to the surface after that fateful dive.
Awful for fans, true, but amazing drama: Could Sam’s ending be any more tragic than one that could have altogether been avoided if only Port Charles’ “good” mobster had come clean about what he’d done to the erstwhile Jagger?
Ironically, Monaco, who has already taped Sam’s swan song, will be exiting the daytime drama that she chose over all of the others whenPort Charleswas cancelled in 2003.
She’d made such an impression as vampire bride Livvie that “probably within 30 minutes of finding out [the show was axed], I basically got an offer from every one of the networks,” she toldSoap Opera Digestin ’23. “I had the pick of the litter.”
Frank Valentini, who is the executive producer ofGeneral Hospitalnow, did his damnedest to recruit Monaco forOne Life to Live, which at the time he was running.
He “was probably the most aggressive one that was seeking me out,” she recalled, “and called me personally.”
Kelly Monaco Opens Up About The “Truth” Regarding Her Exit From The Soap In Social Media Post!
General Hospital (GH) spoilers indicate that fans are walking on eggshells, waiting for the final shoe to drop on the Sam McCall character.
Reports revealed weeks ago that Kelly Monaco was leaving the soap, with her last airdate sometime in the fall. It’s also been stated that Sam is set to be killed off.
Social media has been a buzz with fan speculation on what the “real story” around all this, especially since Monaco and Sam are such a fan favorite.
Of course, Kelly Monaco herself has added fuel to the fire, recently.
On September 15, the actress posted a photo of her and the late Billy Miller as a way of honoring him on the first anniversary of his passing.
She uploaded a pic where the two were goofing around for the camera, both with red roses in their mouths. Monaco wrote a heartfelt caption, but also vowed that she would soon tell her and Miller’s ‘side of the story’.
Fast forward to last Friday, September 27, and Kelly Monaco’s mom, Carmina Monaco, hopped on X (formerly known as Twitter), letting fans know that Kelly had officially wrapped up filming on GH.
In an even more shocking move, Monaco spoke out on her GH departure on October 1, which is ironically enough, Kelly’s 21st anniversary on GH.
She did so in a comment thread on an IG post.
Soap Hub posted an article on their Instagram account that highlighted Days of Our Lives’ Greg Vaughan (Eric Brady) supporting Monaco.
An IG user replied,“Terrible they fired Kelly, what a terrible thing to do. What’s their problem??I love Gregg Vaughn. Hope he can stay on Days.
Another user commented noting, “What do you got concrete in your head she wasn’t fired she didn’t take the pay cut, so she had to leave.”
This is when Kelly Monaco slid into the thread and replied, “’No primary role’.. do your homework. When Billy Miller was fired, Sam’s storyline stopped.”
She went on to say, “Stripping Sam of every characteristic she had. Something I worked for decades to build… Slowly dismantling her, into a character that I did not recognize, let alone the audience.”
Monaco ended the comment with, “Call it what you will… retaliation at it[s] finest. I will give a proper statement. The truth will set you free.”
Kelly’s IG comment has since been deleted, but as the old saying goes, nothing is ever fully erased on the Internet, so despite this, it looks like the damage has been done.
There’s clearly far more to this story than simply an actress getting fired from a soap, and it’s only a matter of time before the “truth” will set us all free when we hear Kelly’s side of things!
General Hospital spoilers remind fans that the soap films about six weeks ahead of schedule, so it also won’t be long until viewers find out how Sam McCall meets her demise.
But when will we all learn about Kelly’s story?
It sounds like something far juicer than whatever a soap opera storyline can offer!
